Cottage Debut for The Other Side Village

Our manufacturing team debuts first cottages for The Other Side Village

On July 19th, we hosted a celebration with The Other Side Village to announce the names of the first permanent cottages sponsored by community members that residents will soon call home. Business leaders David Ibarra and K.O. Murdock unveiled “Live Ready Casa” and “Silverado Manor” as they toured the two homes they sponsored as part of the first phase of the project.

The Other Side Village is a master-planned neighborhood that provides affordable, permanent quality housing for people coming out of chronic homelessness. Infrastructure is currently going into place at the 40-acre lot at 1850 W. Indiana Avenue in Salt Lake City to accommodate an initial 60 cottages and additional AirBnB-style nightly rental cottages. Each cottage will be about 400-square feet and costs around $90,000 to build and fully furnish.

Like its sister program The Other Side Academy, the primary ingredient for success at The Other Side Village is creating a supportive environment, socially and physically. Residents will be required to pay rent and will have access to on-site social services and employment opportunities.

Once completed, the village will include amenities for residents including a grocery store and community events center, as well as retail and other social enterprise facilities. A donut shop run by those in The Other Side program, that will eventually be housed in the village, provided refreshments for today’s event.

The Other Side Village is looking to complete its first phase by the end of the year with the sponsorship of the remaining 30 cottages. Ibarra and Murdock called on fellow businesses and community groups to join them in becoming a Village Partner through a donation of money, time, or services.

We take pride in the quality craftsmanship our manufacturing team put in to the cottages. We look forward to continuing as their building partner and being a critical component in bringing this model to other cities across the West.
